Privacy Policy

Effective as of 22 October 2026 · Caloriator, by Fun & Go Apps

In short: no account, no ads, no analytics and no servers of ours. Your food diary, weigh-ins and settings stay on your device and we never receive them. On its own, the app goes online only to look up a scanned barcode in Open Food Facts. The full text below is what governs.

Who We Are

Caloriator is a free app made by Fun & Go Apps (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Caloriator app for Android and iPhone and the caloriator.com website. You can reach us at funandgoapps@gmail.com.

What the App Stores on Your Device

Caloriator works without an account and does not send your data to us. Everything you enter is saved in the app’s own storage on your device:

  • your food diary — the meals, products, amounts and dates you log;
  • products, categories and product groups you create or edit, including the barcodes of products you scanned;
  • your weigh-ins and weight history;
  • what you enter in the calorie target calculator — sex, age, height, weight and activity level — and the resulting calorie and macro targets;
  • settings such as language, reminder times and product search preferences;
  • small pieces of app state, such as your logging streak, when a tip or rating request was last shown, and an unsaved product form so you do not lose it.

Some of this, such as your weight and what you eat, relates to your health. The app never sends it to us or to anyone else, and we have no way to see it. It stays on your device until you delete it in the app, clear the app’s data or uninstall the app. Because we never receive your data, we also cannot restore it if your phone is lost — use the backup described below.

Camera and Barcode Scanning

The app offers an optional barcode scanner that lets you add a food product by scanning its EAN or UPC barcode. To use it, the app asks for permission to access your device’s camera. The permission is requested only when you open the scanner for the first time, and you may decline it or revoke it later in your device settings — the rest of the app keeps working without it, and products can always be added manually.

The camera preview is used solely to detect a barcode in real time on your device. No photos or video are taken, stored, saved to your gallery or transmitted anywhere. The app does not access your photo library or your microphone.

When a barcode is recognised, the app first looks for a matching product on your device. If none is found, the barcode number alone is sent over an encrypted connection to the public Open Food Facts database to retrieve the product’s name, brand and nutritional values. The request contains only the barcode number — no account data, no device identifiers and none of your food diary or other app data. As with any internet request, Open Food Facts receives technical connection data such as your IP address; their handling of it is described in the Open Food Facts privacy policy.

The product data returned by Open Food Facts only pre-fills the product form, so you can review and edit it before saving. The barcode and the saved product are then stored on your device, so scanning the same code again is resolved locally without another request.

Barcode detection itself runs on your device: on iPhone through Apple’s built-in frameworks, and on Android through Google’s ML Kit library. Google states that ML Kit may send Google limited technical information, such as device and app details and performance metrics of the library, to maintain and improve it; this never includes camera images or your app data. See Google’s privacy policy.

Reminders

If you turn on reminders to log your meals or to weigh in, the app asks for permission to show notifications. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device; no push service or server is involved. You can turn them off in the app’s settings or in your device settings at any time.

Backup, Export and Sharing

You can save a backup file of your data, export your history or calculator results as a CSV file, share a screenshot of a summary, and import a backup or a product list from a file. Exports are created on your device and handed to your system’s share sheet; where they go next — an email, a messaging app, a cloud drive — is your choice, and that service’s own privacy policy applies. Imports read only the file you pick. A backup file contains your diary, weigh-ins, own products and settings, so keep it somewhere you trust.

If your phone’s own backup is turned on (Google backup on Android, iCloud on iPhone), the operating system may include the app’s data in it. Those backups are kept in your Google or Apple account under their terms, and we have no access to them.

Links That Open Outside the App

Some buttons open other services, but only when you tap them: the search button in the product form opens a Google search for the product name you typed; the rating request opens Caloriator’s page on Google Play or the App Store; the About screen opens caloriator.com or your email app. Once you leave the app, the privacy policy of that site or service applies.

Analytics, Advertising and App Stores

The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting libraries, and it does not track you across apps or websites. Caloriator is distributed through Google Play and the App Store, which handle your account and download under their own privacy policies. They give developers aggregated statistics such as install counts and, if you have allowed your device to share them, anonymous crash reports. We use these only to find and fix problems in the app.

The Website

caloriator.com sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising. It keeps your language choice in your browser’s local storage, plus a session flag so you are sent to your language version only once. The video tutorial is loaded from YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) when you click it; from then on Google’s privacy policy applies. Like any website, the server hosting caloriator.com may keep standard access logs, such as IP address, page requested and browser type, for security and operation.

Email

If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you, and we do not keep them longer than needed for that.

Your Rights and Choices

Because we do not collect or store your app data, we hold nothing about you to access, correct or delete — you control it directly. You can edit or delete entries in the app, take your data with you using a backup, and remove everything by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling the app. You can withdraw the camera or notification permission at any time in your device settings. For anything else, including an email you sent us, contact us at the address below. If you are in the European Union, you can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Security

Your data is protected by your device’s own security, such as its screen lock and storage encryption, so keep your device locked and up to date. The Open Food Facts lookup uses an encrypted HTTPS connection. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but keeping your data on your device means it is not held in a central place that could be breached.

Children’s Privacy

Caloriator is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

If the app starts handling your information differently, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the effective date. You are advised to review this page from time to time.

This policy is effective as of 2026-10-22.
